A Lagos based civil rights organization, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has said it would drag the Minister for Youths and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung before the various anti-graft agencies alleging that the minister diverted the sum of N7.2b meant for Bashiru Ali bout.

According to the group, the money was the sum approved by President MuhammaduBuhari to the ministry for the promotion of a world boxing championship bout involving, a former world cruiserweight champion, Mr. Bashiru Alli popularly known as Bash Alli.

According to the activist who is also the Convener of Save Lagos Group (SLG) raised the alarm after a meeting with members of the Bash Alli Fans Club of Nigeria (BAFCON) in Lagos, said, the need to drag the minister before the anti-graft bodies was necessitated by the seeming lukewarm attitude the minister has continued to displayed to the presidential directive to organize the event.

“We have been reliably informed that the current Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung has been sitting on the sum of N7.2b being the funds that have been approved (on two occasions) by President MuhammaduBuhari for the staging of a Guinness Book of Records world boxing event in January, 2019 in Nigeria.

“We are raising the alarm to all Nigerians because what we see on ground does not in any way show that the minister is ready to obey the presidential directive but rather, Mr. Dalung has been making efforts to frustrate the directive, a development we see as sheer sabotage of an express directive of President MuhammaduBuhari.” He said.

Reacting to the allegation, through his Special Assistant on media, NNEKA Ikem Anibeze, Dalung who dismissed the claim CHRSJ described the allegation as a cheap attempt to hug the headline in a quest for relevance as he said no money was ever approved from the Ministry or Presidency for such bogus venture.

He said, said “Civil Righty Organization whose watchword should be civility, truthfulness and fairness could claim such amount was approved by the Presidency for a World title fight by Bash Ali.

“This so called Civil Rights Organization abused every standard ethics that any Civil Rights Organization should hold dear. It is another attempt to confuse unsuspecting members of the public.”

“Before I assumed office as Minister of Sports, Mr Bashiru Ali fought my predecessors just under the guise of hosting a world championship bout. He has also employed same violent antics against the MD of Nexim bank which landed him behind the counter.

Dalung revealed that a legal redress will be sought against harbingers and publishers of malicious stories.

As a Nigerian with an inalienable right to seek redress, my lawyers are in the process of approaching a competent court of law. Enough is enough,” he said”.
