FIFA threatens worldwide ban on Nigeria without further notice

World football governing body, FIFA at the weekend warned that it would not consult with any of the parties fighting for the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) before throwing the country out of the game if it found that a third party had been meddling in the nation’s football affairs.
The Nigerian football community was jolted by a Supreme Court decision on Friday directing the parties fighting for the leadership of the NFF to go back to the Jos High court to sort out the suit filed by one of the parties claiming it is the right board to lead the federation.
Following the suit filed by the group loyal to Ambassador Chris Giwa, the world football governing body in 2016 banned all the parties involved in instituting the case, including Giwa, Muazu Suleiman, Effiong Johnson, Yahaya Adama and Sani Fema from all football related activities for five years.
The world body later extended the five-year ban to a worldwide ban following the Giwa group’s decision to take their case to the CAS.

Then they came for Dino… By Martins Oloja

If the German Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemoller had been in Nigeria last week, he would have done contextual reporting of this Dino Melaye developing story somehow for all actors to learn from. He would have opened the saga thus:

First, the neo-fascists came for the Dasukis, we did not speak out – because we were not from the Caliphate;
Then they came for the Sarakis, and we did not speak out – because we were not of Fulani-Yoruba stock;
Then they came for the Metuhs and we did not speak out – because we were not Igbo;
Then they came for Ms. Olunloyo and we did not speak out because we were not bloggers of Yoruba extraction;
Then they came for the Misaus and we did not speak out – because we were not retired police officers from Bauchi;
And then they just came for Dino and we were speaking in tongues too – because we were not Kogi- based Yoruba…
And so when they will come for us, there will be no one left to speak out too. And democracy would have disappeared! Hello, my silent brothers’!
Martin Niemoller (1892–1984) whose thought inspired this,was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps.
Niemöller would be best remembered for the quotation:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.The quotation stems from Niemöller’s lectures during the early postwar period. Different versions of the quotation exist. Much

$496m Tucano Aircraft Deal: Buhari goofed on due process, say lawyers

With angry members of the National Assembly allegedly collecting signatures to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari for the legislative bypass in the ongoing $496m Tucano aircrafts deal, legal practitioners insist that failure to seek approval before spending by the President has rendered the transaction ultra vires, hence unconstitutional
According to them, the country’s constitutional framework makes it incumbent on the president to spend only with legislative approval, even as one of them maintained that anticipatory approval can only be tenable if there were previous approvals that were inadequate to cover a particular expenditure.
With a suggestion that laws could be made to accommodate purchase of military hardware that require confidentiality, another lawyer, however, stressed that since politics is about compromise, the lawmakers may excuse the present constitutional breach if the President avails a tenable reason for his action.
For Port Harcourt-based lawyer, Festus Ogwuche, Buhari’s action is an outright disregard for the Constitution, which he swore to uphold, just as he commended the NASS for the moves to impeach him.

He held that under democracy, three arms of government ought to interface and as such, if Mr. President had acted in national interest, he would have carried the other arms of government along,

10 Natural Ingredients That Repel Mosquitos

Natural mosquito repellents

People are usually prone to mosquito bites due to a combination of scent, light, heat, and humidity. If you’re a mosquito magnet, you’re probably tired of having itchy, bumpy skin.
 Different species of mosquitoes — like the ones that carry malaria — prefer bacteria and sweat. Others are attracted to carbon dioxide and certain hand odors.
Whichever species you encounter, you can protect yourself without having to use a DEET-based chemical repellent. DEET products have the potential to cause health and environmental problems. You might choose to avoid using these products unless you’re visiting places that have a high risk for mosquito-borne diseases like Zika. DEET is recommended for people at risk for mosquito bites carrying any disease.
If you’re doing things like taking a hike, hanging out in your backyard, or taking a camping trip, natural repellents might be a better option. This can be especially true for children, who are more sensitive.
Read on to see which natural repellents work best.

No PVC, No Salary – Okorocha Tells Workers

Henceforth, no one can carry out any form of business activity or access any form of government services including social and health services without a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) in Imo State, the state government has said, adding: ” No indigene above the age of 18 will also be admitted into any of the state owned schools without a PVC.” The governor, Rochas Okorocha said his administration will embark on “operation show your PVC” for the indigenes of the state as a condition to engage in socioeconomic activities.

Really not bad. Now, this idea might be against him or for him in the nearest future. i.e. Recall that he is putting his son-in-law forward as the next Governor? Now if people go out and get their PVCs, they could decide to vote against him, and if they want his son-in-law to rule them, they could vote him, lol. So in all it would still favour the people of Imo.

Why I Prefer Yoruba Movie Roles To Igbo- Regina Chukwu

Regina Chukwu of Igbo origin has revealed why she prefers to act in the Yoruba movie world than that of the English speaking one. While answering that question, Regina said;
Even though I am Igbo, I act mostly Yoruba movies. I actually speak Yoruba more fluently than my native language. When I first told my late husband I wanted to join the movie industry, he said I would be acting English movies. However, at the time I decided to join the industry, the person who introduced me was a Yoruba actor. Even when I tried to get close to the English movie producers, they weren’t as welcoming as the Yoruba people. The Yoruba people’s structure is stronger. In the English sector, a lot of people would want to sleep with you before giving you roles.

Harvard University uses Nigeria as a case study of a failed African country

The assignment reads in part ‘Nigeria, sub-saharan Africa’s largest economy, epitomizes both the promise and the problems the continent faces in the 21st century’.

Nigeria has yet again been ‘disgraced’ internationally, following an assignment Harvard University gave to its students in which Nigeria was used as a case study of a failed African country.

The question Harvard University gave its students reads;

Africa is growing. Seven of the the ten fastest growing economies in the world are in Africa, and the continent’s largest economies are becoming less dependent on extractive commodities. The continent’s rising middle class has demonstrated a taste for consumer goods and technological innovation, and Africa’s population-currently more than a billion people- is booming and overwhelmingly young at a time when populations in other regions are shrinking and aging.
Nigeria, sub-saharan Africa’s largest economy, epitomizes both the promise and the problems the continent faces in the 21st century. The contry had failed to thrive for its first thirty years as an

Sanusi unhappy with Nigerian ministers for missing meeting with investors in Washington

Sanusi

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the emir of Kano, has expressed displeasure with the absence of government officials at a meeting with investors in Washington DC.
Speaking to journalists at an investment programme organised by the Nigerian embassy, Sanusi said Nigeria might lose investors because of tardiness and lackadaisical attitude.
The ministers who did not attend the event were Audu Ogbeh (agriculture), Ogbonnaya Onu (science and technology), Lai Mohammed (information) Babatunde Fashola (power), Ibe Kachikwu (state for petroleum resources), Kemi Adeosun (finance) and Kayode Fayemi (solid minerals).
They all had sessions at the IMF meeting. Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yewande Sadiku, executive secretary of Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and the expected governors were also absent.
“For the person sitting in London and who has a billion dollars to invest, he’s got Nigeria, he’s got Ghana, he’s got Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa, you may be the biggest economy, but he may decide that rather than go through the hassle of investing $500 million in Nigeria, why not put $100 million in Ghana, $100 million in Rwanda, $100 million in Cote d’Ivore, just to have diversification benefit

When ordinariness, mediocrity, small dreams drive politics- By Martins Oloja

As politicians are cocking their guns again to run for project 2019, I am fully persuaded that we need to sensitise our people to get cracking and freeze celebration of mediocrity, small dreams and ordinariness this time. The reason for this prayer point this week is not far to seek: the spirit of ordinariness and small dreams has been dominating public affairs in this country. And that is why we have remained a potentially great country. That spirit can’t take us anywhere near greatness. Nelson Mandela the legend and oracle saw the spirit hovering around us the other day and warned us to put our act together, lest we should be the last. That was why he said to us, that if we continued to celebrate mediocrity, we would not be able to lead the black race and Africa as we had been endowed to do. Madiba’s words often quoted here:

“The world will not respect Africa until Nigeria earns that respect. The black people of the world need Nigeria to be great as a source of pride and confidence….”
The implication of this assertion is that Africa and indeed the black people of the world have been waiting for Nigeria to touch off issues in country and global competitiveness that will make the world to respect the continent and the black race. In other words, the iconic Madiba was eloquent in his warning here that Nigeria is the only source of pride and confidence for the black people of the world.
But sadly as I was saying here, our greedy, callous and mentally lazy dealers, sorry dealers supported by the passive elite corps members have been celebrating mediocrity especially from 1999 when we returned with what FelaAnikulapoKuti, the oracle called,dem don crazy we call democracy. I am

The party said the governor breached the law by being absent from his duty post as the state’s elected governor.
The party frowned at the governor for leaving the state without transmitting power to his deputy as enshrined in the Constitution.
The governor has not been seen in public for about two weeks and there is no formal explanation from his aides about his whereabout.
The PDP Chairman Kaduna State Chapter, Felix Hyat, in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Abraham Catoh, raised the concern over the governor’s absence.
He said the situation can bring chaos in the administration of the state.
“For more than 11 days running, governor El-Rufai of Kaduna State has disappeared from public glare, without transmitting power to his deputy,” the statement stated.
It also frowned at the APC’s style of leadership in the state “which is without recourse to
