Too late for restructuring, lets break up – Annkio Briggs

Environmental and Human rights activist, Annkio Briggs , has said that it is too late for Nigeria to be restructured, maintaining that what the country needs is total breakup so every emerged country will develop at its own pace.
Mrs. Briggs said that the north has more numbers in the National Assembly and hence, can always influence to their interest any bill or action they feel is against their interest, saying such could happen with the restructuring call.
Annkio Briggs
Briggs said: “Going by the figures, the North is getting over 60 percent of the total local government allocations and even when we come to the states as well they also receive far more than the Southern states.

Federal character delusion and crisis of character

“Sorrow is better than fear. Fear is a journey, a terrible journey. But sorrow is at least an arrival. When the storm threatens, a man is afraid for his house. But when the house is destroyed, there is something to do. About a storm he can do nothing, but he can rebuild a house…”
“Cry, the beloved country, for the unborn child that’s the inheritor of our fear…”
“The tragedy is not that things are broken. The tragedy is that things are not mended again”. (Alan Paton, Cry, The Beloved Country).

The setting of Alan Paton’s Cry, The Beloved Country is apartheid South Africa. But it is beginning to appear that the artful author had the Nigeria’s current dispensation in mind too when he wrote that evergreen novel. First, the title of the novel is apt for the current situation in the country that showed so much promise at independence but available data pieces are beginning to portray the most

Bomb scare rattles residents of Plateau community

The Enugu Diocese (Anglican Communion) says President Muhammadu Buhari’s long ill health has impeded the growth of the nation and urged him to resign from office if he is unable to discharge his duties.
The Church also asked the Federal Government to make public the outcome of the investigations of the special panel headed by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo over the large sums of money recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a private apartment in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi in Lagos as well as the arms recovered by the Customs.

North Korea likens Trump to Hitler

North Korea compared US President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler on Tuesday in its latest diatribe, amid high tensions over Pyongyang’s military ambitions and ahead of a visit to Washington by South Korea’s new leader.
The latest attack came a week after nuclear-armed Pyongyang called Trump a “lunatic” as tensions rose following the death of US student Otto Warmbier, who was detained for 18 months in the North and then sent home in a coma.
 US President Donald Trump
An editorial on the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) dialled the hostile rhetoric up higher, slamming Trump’s key policies as being akin to “Nazism in the 21st century”.
Trump declared at his inauguration in January that “From this moment on, it’s going to be America first”.
KCNA said: “The ‘American-first principle’… advocates the world domination by recourse to military means just as was the case with Hitler’s concept of world occupation.”
Trump was “following Hitler’s dictatorial politics” to divide others into two categories, “friends and foes” to justify “suppression”, it added.

Supreme Court allows parts of travel ban
The court is allowing the ban to go into effect for foreign nationals who lack any "bona fide relationship with any person or entity in the United States." The court, in an unsigned opinion, left the travel ban against citizens of six majority-Muslim on hold as applied to non-citizens with relationships with persons or entities in the United States, which includes most of the plaintiffs in both cases.

California Man Visits Disneyland 2,000 Days In A Row

As one of the world's largest entertainment companies, Disney is used to adoring fans but one man has topped them all, visiting its California theme park 2,000 days in a row.
Jeff Reitz marked the milestone on Thursday, using his Disneyland Resort annual pass which had enabled his trek to the park on a daily basis since January 1, 2012.

"What we mostly know about him is that he loves Disneyland," said John McClintock, a spokesman for the theme park.
"When I asked him what he likes about the park, he said he likes all the shows and all the attractions but he did mention that he really likes to listen to the music in the park," he added. "I guess he finds it relaxing."
McClintock said Disney has yet to come across someone as enamored with the park as Reitz, an Air Force veteran in his 40s who usually shows up after work and spends a few hours.
"His girlfriend frequently comes with him but not every day," he said. "That would be true love, wouldn't it?"

CAN Slams Nigerian Govt. Over ‘Jesus Son Of God’ Curriculum Question: Pastor/Acting President Osinbajo Says Nothing

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has accused the Nigerian government of inserting a controversial topic in the new school curriculum, which questions whether Jesus Christ is the son of God.

The association said the topic in the new subject, Civic Education, was “satanic”.
The comment came amid allegations by the body that the government was trying to delist Christian Religious Studies from the school curriculum, while retaining the Islamic Religious Knowledge.
The government has denied the allegation.
But apparently not satisfied by clarifications by the government, CAN has demanded a return to the old basic education curriculum with respect to religious studies.

John Cardinal Olorunfemi Onaiyekan
The Catholic Bishop while speaking at the Mass to mark the Centenary of the late Eminence, Ignatius Cardinal Ekandem, in Abuja on Friday, called on Nigerians to champion peaceful co-habitation. He also encouraged Nigerians to work towards correcting the things that are wrong in the country instead of fighting each other. He appealed to each Nigerian to work towards peace and growth in the country.
Onaiyekan also appreciated the efforts being made by Acting President Yemi Osinbanjo in handling the recent agitations for disintegration and urges Nigerians to support the governments efforts towards peace and stability.
He said that the power to keep Nigeria as one rests in the hands of each Nigerian and  urges the masses to shun Violence and Chaos..
According to the Guardian, the bishop emphasized that the ordinary Nigerian would be the ones to bear the brunt of chaos if it occurs.
“The politicians, when they start playing their games, forget the people on the ground. We on the ground ought to remember that when things get hot, there are certain people up there who always find a way out, fly their families abroad and leave the poor people to suffer. So we better take that seriously and not allow anybody to push us into a situation where there is general disorganized chaos,” he said.

I’ll win again at the Appeal Court – Boasts Senate President, Bukola Saraki

The Senate president, Bukola Saraki, says he would win at the Appeal Court where the Federal government has filed a petition challenging his acquittal and discharge by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
The tribunal had on June 14th discharged and acquitted Saraki of all charges relating to his case of false assets declaration.
Saraki
The tribunal held that the evidence put forward by the prosecuting team were not enough to find him guilty.
Upon receiving the judgement, the Federal government filed an appeal against the ruling on Tuesday, June 20th.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu today, Saraki said he was confident that the appeal court verdict would not be different from that of the CCT as the facts of the case remained the same and the grounds on which the tribunal’s decision was based remain unassailable.

Canadian Sniper Sets Record For Longest Confirmed Kill In Military History

A Canadian sniper has beat the record for the longest confirmed kill in military history by picking off an ISIS fighter from a staggering 11,319 feet.
The bullet was fired from a McMillan TAC-50 rifle set on a high-rise tower and took 10 seconds to travel the 2.14 miles towards the fighter, who was attacking Iraqi soldiers.
This smashed the last record set by a Briton Craig Harrison, who killed a Taliban soldier with a 338 Lapua Magnum rifle at a range of 8,120 feet(1.54 miles) in 2009.
A military source told The Globe and Mail the kill was verified by video, adding: 'This is an incredible feat. It is a world record that might never be equalled.'
The third longest kill was by Canadian Corporal Rob Furlong, who shot down an Afghan insurgent from 7,972 feet(1.51 miles) in 2002 during Operation Anaconda.

South Sudan No Longer In Famine

South Sudan is no longer classified as being in famine following an increase in aid, a UN-backed report says.
However, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report says 1.7 million people are still facing emergency levels of hunger, one step below famine.
There has been an increase in humanitarian assistance since famine was declares in February
The famine, announced in February, was the first be declared anywhere in the world since 2011.
Armed conflict, low harvests and soaring food prices have been blamed.
Tens of thousands of people have died and millions displaced since fighting erupted in the country more than three years ago.
The IPC report says the numbers at risk of starvation have increased to six million, up from 5.5 million last month.
The United Nations says the world is facing its biggest humanitarian crisis since the end of World War Two, with a total of nearly 20 million people facing starvation in north-east Nigeria, Somalia and Yemen, as well as South Sudan.

When is a famine declared?

The Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) system classes a famine as:
  • At least 20% of the population has access to fewer than 2,100 kilocalories of food a day
  • Acute malnutrition in more than 30% of children
  • Two deaths per 10,000 people, or four child deaths per 10,000 children every day

Everything about him, including how he looks, what he says, what he wears and how he talks stinks to high heavens.
