2 Friends Docked For Gang Raping Female Friend

Two friends, Chidiebere Ejide (18) and Chidi Amadi (22), who allegedly conspired and gang-raped their female friend, appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s’ Court in Lagos on Friday.
Amadi is to stand trial on a charge for conspiracy, while Ejide is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, rape and stealing.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

282 deaths: What Nigerian govt, affected states are doing about meningitis outbreak

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has expressed concern about rising cases of deaths and ill-health following the outbreak of meningitis in some parts of the country.
At least 282 deaths have so far been recorded across five states due to the disease.
The Acting Executive Secretary of the commission, Oti Ovrawah, said in a statement by the agency that relevant stakeholders must act fast to avoid further loss of lives to meningitis.
Ms. Ovrawah noted that steps must be taken urgently to contain the outbreak. She emphasised that the Federal Ministry of Health and its counterparts in the states should, as a matter of urgency, take immediate and proactive steps through vaccination to protect citizens.

Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, said on Thursday that 1,966 suspected cases have been recorded while 109 have been confirmed and being treated since the outbreak of the disease in February.

Ex-Super Eagles Coach Paul Hamilton Died At 75

A former coach of the Nigerian senior national team, Super Eagles, chief Paul Hamilton, is dead.

Hamilton who also coached the Super Falcons had battled several ailments that led to the amputation of his leg at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) earlier this year.

He died at the military hospital on Thursday at the age of 75.

Naira Makes U-turn, Slides To N385

AFTER weeks of regaining strength on the foreign exchange market, the naira moved in a reverse direction and dropped, albeit by a small margin, to 385 as against 382 on Thursday morning.

    Senate Suspends Ndume For Six Months

    The Senate, on Wednesday, suspended former Majority Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, for six months for not “making due diligence” before filing a petition against the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki and lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye.

    Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions made the recommendation in its report, which was considered by the lawmakers at the plenary on Wednesday.

    Trader Commits Suicide In Anambra

    It increases on daily basis- A 38-year-old petty trader, Mrs Lovina Odo, has committed suicide by hanging herself with rope tied to a ceiling fan at No. 1, Ukpaka lane, Umusiome village, Nkpor-agu near Onitsha in Anambra.

    Mr Okechukwu Odo, the husband of the deceased, said he and Lovina had been married for over eight years without a child.

    APC Governor Yari Diverts N500m Paris Club Refund To Repay Personal Loan

    Detectives have recovered N500million allegedly diverted by Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz-Yari who is also the chairman of Northern State governor from the London-Paris Club loan refund to repay personal loan.
    The governor diverted the N500million (out of his state’s share of the N19b first tranche) to a mortgage bank but the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) tracked and secured the cash. Besides, two firms have refunded N220million of the N3.5billion traced to some aides of Senate President  Bukola Saraki.
