Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman, Olisa Metuh has said that he’ll return N400 million to the Federal Government in order to show his support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

Metuh is facing charges of money laundering in connection with the mentioned sum.
He made the comment via a statement released by his lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) on Thursday, June 30, 2016.

According to a source on a GOP conference call, the speaker that the House will indeed vote on a proposal that would prevent suspected terrorists from buying guns.
One of the issues discussed on the call was terrorist watch lists, the source said.
The source added that the speaker said it was important to make sure suspected terrorists can't obtain firearms.

An Abuja Federal High Court today adjourned former Gov. Orji Kalu’s money laundering trial till Sept. 27. The judge, Justice Anwuli Chikere, adjourned the case pending an appeal filed by the defendants at the Supreme Court.

Kalu is standing trial alongside, his company, Slok Nigeria Limited and Jones Udeogo, a former Commissioner for Finance in Abia for alleged money laundering.

We have various movie tribes in Nigeria but they classify all under Nollywood. Following a court order, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today issued a Certificate of Return to Mr Uche Ogah, who came second at the last Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Abia State. On the account of allegedly using fake tax returns during the primaries, Justice Okon Abang had stated that the incumbent governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu was never qualified to run in the PDP primaries as a governorship candidate. He nullified Ikpeazu's election and ordered INEC to issue a certificate of return to Ogah. However, an order of Injunction has now been secured by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu and it prevents Abia Chief Justice or any other Judge from swearing-in Uche Ogah as Governor of the state while he remains in office pending the determination of his appeal

According to a UN report the largest amounts seized were in Cape Verde, followed by the Gambia, Nigeria and Ghana with Brazil identified as the source of the illegal shipment.

Ghana has been named among the top transit points for cocaine in the world according to a new report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
According to the World Drug Report 2016, the West African region in general had become a major passage point for cocaine from South America en route to Europe.
The report said between the five year period; 2009-2014, “the proportion of the total cocaine seizures in Africa accounted for by West Africa rose to 78 per cent.”
The largest amounts seized were in Cape Verde, followed by the Gambia, Nigeria and Ghana with Brazil identified as the source of the illegal shipment.
“Of the cocaine shipments leaving Ghana, 61 per cent left the country by boat and 39 per cent by air”, the report found.

Kuje Jail break: Officer in Charge of Kuje prison removed


Following the jail break at the Kuje Medium prisons last Friday June 24th in which two inmates escaped, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Prison Service, Ahmed Jafa’aru, has ordered the removal of the officer in-charge of Kuje prison, Musa Tanko, and also instituted a probe panel over the matter. The two inmates Maxwell Ajukwu and Solomon Amodu, were standing trial for murder and escaped from the facility by scaling the fence. They are currently at large.

11 Killed In Boko Haram Suicide Attack In Cameroon


At least 11 people has been killed in northern Cameroon by a Boko Haram suicide bomber, a provincial governor said Thursday, warning civilians not to breach special security measures aimed at preventing such attacks.

It was the latest in a spate of raids blamed on the Nigeria-based Islamist militant group in the area, which have driven tens of thousands of people from their homes.

A security source said the attacker blew himself up in the town of Djakana near the Nigerian border overnight.

“Seven people were killed immediately, including the bomber,” the source said, adding that most of the victims were members of a local vigilante group tasked with hunting down Boko Haram fighters.

The National Assembly election petition tribunal Makurdi on Thursday upheld the election of former Senate President, Senator David Mark of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.In its ruling, the tribunal struck out the petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Party, APC, Mr Daniel Onjeh in the Benue South senatorial district poll.
Senator David Mark had asked the tribunal to dismiss Mr. Onjeh’s petition for filing outside the 21 days required by law.
The judge, while delivering his judgment on preliminary objection, ruled that the petitioner, Onjeh, filed his petition out of time and accordingly, it was thrown out.
Meanwhile, the APC candidate says he will appeal the judgment.

Abuja Lawyer Withdraws No WAEC Certificate Suit Against Buhari

An Abuja-based lawyer, Nnamdi Nwokocha-Ahaiwe, withdraws suit seeking disqualification of President Muhammadu Buhari from the 2015 Presidential Poll for allegedly not possessing requisite education qualification.
The lawyer has filed a notice at the Federal High Court in Abuja to discontinue the suit he instituted seeking the disqualification of President Muhammadu Buhari for lack of requisite certificate for the office of President.

Ahaaiwe sought the disqualification of Buhari saying the President did not sit for the Cambridge West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1961 as he claimed.

However, he filed the notice of discontinuance, this week and did not give any reason for withdrawing the case from court.

The lawyer had alleged that his family and friends were being threatened over the case and was concerned for his safety.

Ex-Chief Of Air Staff, Amosu, Granted N500 Million Bail

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has released the immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (retd.), and other senior officers arrested over the $2.1bn arms scam.
Our correspondent learnt on Monday that a former Chief of Accounts and Budgeting of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal J.B. Adigun, and former NAF Director of Finance and Budget, Air Commodore O. O. Gbadebo, were all granted administrative bail alongside Amosu.
It was learnt that the EFCC seized their passports  and they were also given the option of returning the money they allegedly stole.

The EFCC had in February seized properties worth over N5bn from the three senior officers.
The properties are located in the Ikoyi, Ikeja GRA and Badagry areas of Lagos State.
Also, the EFCC recovered N381m from a company in  which Amosu’s wife, Omolara, is believed to be a director.

A trigger-happy policeman, on Tuesday, killed a motorcyclist at the beach junction of Nsukka while trying to shoot into the air.

With barely a few weeks to go for the 2016 Summer Olympics, protest by Rio de Janeiro police against delay in salary payment, and even lack of basic supplies like toilet paper, has fuelled worries about safety and security at the world's premier sporting event.

The city is awaiting a bailout as its acting governor declared a financial emergency this month and called on the Brazil government to release federal funds to host the Games that begins on 5 August
It was there for all to see, held aloft by first responders protesting late paychecks and poor working conditions.

Abortion Requests Rise Amid Zika Fears

The mysterious Zika virus has been detected in 61 countries, the majority in Latin America and more pregnant women are considering abortions out of fear of birth defects.

The Zika virus may be driving a surge in interest in abortions in Latin America, according to a new study published by the New England Journal of Medicine.
According to the study, requests for abortion services in the region through one non-profit provider have jumped more than a third, with increases of close to double in hard-hit Brazil and Venezuela.
Abortion is illegal or severely restricted in most of Latin America, and so there are no official data on abortion rates.
